Freya Soft Cup Deco Reviewed

The Soft Cup Deco form Freya is a bra I was curious about when I first heard about it months ago, but it eventually fell off my radar likely due to the discovery of how fantastic brands such as Miss Mandalay and Ewa Michalak have been for my shape. I’ve pretty much stopped buying Freya bras all together because of their frequently loose bands, and I can’t seem to get a good fit in the cup anymore either. 28F is too small, and 28FFs cause too much gaping or wrinkling. However, when I put on the Soft Cup Deco, I was pretty impressed!

The band feels like a true to size 28. What a relief! For me this means I found the second hook most comfortable and definitely would have preferred a 26 band. I *could* wear it on the loosest hooks, but it just doesn’t feel as snug as I like. The cups are made of the same material as the regular deco (that really rigid foamy sort of material) and are moulded, meaning they retain their own shape. I think the Soft Cup Deco might have a bit more of a triangular shape to the cups than the regular deco as well as a bit more “curve.” What I mean by that is the cups seem to curve in toward my body a bit, so if they were too small I think they cold cut in quite badly.

three-quarter view. I get a small fold at the bottom of the cups in this bra sometimes. It’s slightly visible in this picture. I think that may have to do with the cups being slightly large and the lack of wires.

I chose to purchase the Soft Cup Deco in a 28FF since that seems to be my current usual size, and I had a decent amount of success. My main issue with this bra is that if I don’t stand or sit with perfect posture, the cups gape and I can’t quite fill the tops. This problem was solved for me int he regular deco by sizing down in the cup, but I don’t think that would be an option in this case. The bra is already quite low on the sides, and squishes my breasts together quite a bit. I think in a size down I there wouldn’t be quite enough room to contain me. Couple this with the issue I mentioned earlier about the shape of the cups curving inward a bit, and I’d probably have mad cutting in/spillage. In the end I decided to return this bra. However I must say, I was pretty impressed with the shape! It is uplifted and rounded like the regular deco, however the cleavage is even more-so squished together. Definite “butt” cleavage happening since there are no wires to keep the breasts apart. I found that if I pressed the center gore inward against my chest (it doesn’t lay flat due to the lack of wires) it formed the shape of the regular deco almost exactly.

I found that the seam that sits just under the breasts in place of underwire became irritating after a few hours of wear. Every now and then I would get a jabbing feeling there, which is absolutely not what I want from a wireless bra. It’s unfortunate because other than those moments it really is a very comfortable bra.I’d also like to add that design-wise I really love this bra. It is completely sleek aside from two very tiny bows at the place where the straps meet the cups. The straps also don’t have that thick stitching on them that the regular deco does, so they’re much more attractive in my opinion. I love bras that are this sleek and simple because they have a bit of an androgynous vibe. I’m not the kind of girl that always feels like wearing bows and lace, sometimes I want to keep it as simple as possible (but I definitely can’t deny that I love me some bows and lace on other occasions).

So basically, If you generally have a lot of luck with Freya this bra could be great for you. I seem to be in between  sizes with Freya and can’t get a great fit, but I don’t fault the bra, we’re just not exactly compatible. I also suspect my discomfort with this bra could have been caused by my severe lack of ribcage padding. I am pretty much skin and bones there with little fat to speak of, so someone with a but more cushion might fair better. If you’ve been fed up with 28s feeling too stretchy from Freya lately, this one thankfully does not follow trend.
